After the sometimes surprising results on Saturday, there were no sensations in the early games on Sunday. Last year’s finalist SC Freiburg has an early cup knockout. but only with difficulty averted. In the first round game at second division promoted 1. FC Kaiserslautern, the Bundesliga team came to a 2:1 (1:1, 0:1) after extra time and can continue to dream of marching through to Berlin again. Roland Sallai in the 82nd minute and Ritsu Doan (111th) saved the Europa League participants from the impending end with their late goals. Marlon Ritter (33rd) had given the Red Devils the lead in front of 38,317 spectators with a dream goal from 50 meters.

Freiburg had more of the game, but could hardly embarrass the FCK defense. The hosts acted snappy and were celebrated by the fans for every tackle. Little went forward for the Palatinate, but a stroke of genius by Ritter brought the surprising lead. The midfielder overcame SC keeper Mark Flekken, who was positioned too far in front of goal, with a shot almost from the halfway line. The Dutchman was still on the ball with his fingertips, but couldn’t prevent the goal.

As the season progressed, Kaiserslautern had to pay a little tribute to the intensive running work in midsummer temperatures. Coach Dirk Schuster reacted and brought four fresh players who enlivened the FCK game. Striker Terrence Boyd had several chances to make it 2-0, but couldn’t take them all. That took revenge, because Sallai saved the Breisgauer with the late equalizer in extra time, where Doan scored from a direct free kick to win.

TSG Hoffenheim also needed extra time to beat SV Rödinghausen 2-0 (0-0). In front of 1606 spectators in the Häcker-Wiehenstadion, the new signings Ozan Kabak (115th) and Grischa Prömel (118th) scored the late winning goal for the guests, who were spared an embarrassment in a duel with the brave regional football league team from East Westphalia. Hoffenheim only escaped an early deficit with a lot of luck when Damjan Marceta (14th) didn’t hit the ball properly from close range, injured himself in the process and had to be substituted a little later.

The Bundesliga side, unbeaten in the pre-season, gained more possession as the season went on, but not the better chances. There was a lack of ideas and pace to shake the tightly staggered defense of the fourth division. Only Prömel (8th), who was Hoffenheim’s only summer signing in the starting XI, came close to the opposing goal with a shot. The goalless draw at the break was an expression of a colorless game for long stretches, in which many wishes remained unfulfilled, especially among the guests.

Only after the restart did the Kraichgauers tighten their pace and promptly got their first big chance. But the volley from Andrej Kramaric (50th) was too out of place to seriously challenge guest keeper Leon Tigges, who was also injured and replaced a little later. However, this possibility was not suitable as an initial spark. Hoffenheim continued to run headlong, while Rödinghausen limited himself to counterattacks. Because in the livelier final phase Munas Dabbur (74th/83rd) twice missed great chances to lead the guests and failed free-standing at the opposing goalkeeper, it went into overtime. Hoffenheim used this thanks to late goals from Kabak and Prömel to a resounding victory.

Bundesliga promoted FC Schalke 04 made it into the second round of the DFB Cup with a commanding win. Under the new coach Frank Kramer, the Revierclub won 5-0 (4-0) at the regional league club Bremer SV in Oldenburg on Sunday.

The big favorite from the Ruhr area gave the regional league promoted no chance from the start in front of 10,000 spectators in Oldenburg, 40 kilometers from Bremen. Even without the ailing Simon Terodde and Danny Latza, but with seven newcomers, the Kramer team dominated the hosts at will.

Rodrigo Zalazar gave Schalke the quick lead after just three minutes. Two minutes later, another player should have scored: Former Bochum player Sebastian Polter failed with a penalty kick on BSV goalkeeper Malte Seemann. Drexler then scored the second goal. The offensive player hit the far corner with a shot.

The defense around the central defender Maya Yoshida, who was signed from Genoa and who played as captain on Sunday, had few problems against the team of ex-Bundesliga striker Torsten Gütschow. Only an attempt by Allah Aid Hamid narrowly missed the Schalke goal (13′). On the other side, Drexler was able to increase again. An own goal by Bremen captain Sebastian Kmiec made it 4-0 at the break (39′).

After the 0:12 against FC Bayern Munich in the first round of the cup last season, Bremer SV showed more courage after the break. Nikky Goguadze tested the new Schalke keeper Alexander Schwolow (47th) with a shot from 16 meters.

Schalke coach Kramer replaced the brother of Bayern star Leroy Sané in Sidi Sané. Sturm partner Polter remained in the spotlight for the time being. The attacker missed the fifth goal several times. Defender Marcin Kaminski did better, heading in after a corner to make it 5-0 (83′).

The professional kickers from Gelsenkirchen only had a cold shower after the final whistle. Due to the energy crisis, the city of Oldenburg has turned off the water heating in all city sports facilities during the school holidays, including the Marschweg Stadium.

SV Sandhausen also had no problems at BSV Rehden. The second division tenth won the Lower Saxony club from the Regionalliga Nord 4-0 (3-0). The team from the district of Diepholz could hardly oppose the superior Kurpfälzer.

The double goal scorer Janik Bachmann (23rd/45th minute), Ahmed Kutucu (32nd) and Alexander Schirow (51st) ensured in front of around 1500 spectators that Sandhausen won at no point in time.

Arminia Bielefeld progressed without any problems. In the 7-1 (2-0) win at fifth division club FV Engers, the favorite was superior in all respects. Janni Serra (9th/70th), Fabian Klos (24th/50th), Masaya Okugawa (56th), Bryan Lasme (86th) and Robin Hack ( 90. 1). Jonathan Kap (54th) scored the consolation goal for the Rhineland Cup winner, which the 2500 spectators cheered loudly.

Bielefeld controlled the action from the start and ensured clear conditions early on. Two standard goals brought the early decision. First Serra converted a head after a corner, then Klos also followed up after a corner. The underdog almost made it back after a mistake by Arminia keeper Stefanos Kapino, but Oliver Hüsing cleared before the line (33′).

After the break, a lively game developed with numerous goal chances. The first used toilets again. The best goal of the day, however, came from the hosts. After a low cross from the right, Kap skilfully netted in with a back-heel under pressure. As the strength of the fifth division team dwindled more and more, Bielefeld also deservedly won at altitude. With the success, the second division ended a 13-game winning streak in competitive games.

Triple goal scorer Marcus Thuram confidently led Borussia Mönchengladbach into the second round. The French striker scored a hat-trick (3rd, 22nd and 36th) in the 9-1 (6-0) of the Bundesliga against fifth division SV Oberachern and thus paved the way for a successful competitive debut for the new Gladbach coach Daniel Farke . The other goals for the favorites were scored twice in front of 15,000 spectators by Jonas Hofmann (37′, 45′), Rami Bensebaini (45′), Lars Stindl (47′), Joe Scally (59′) and Florian Neuhaus (78′). . Nico Huber scored for the Oberliga team (61st).

Oberachern had moved to Freiburg’s Dreisam Stadium for their debut in the DFB Cup. In line with the biggest game in the club’s history to date, there was a festival atmosphere, the fans took photos with the team buses before kick-off and loudly urged the players forward during the game. The South Baden team’s only goal was celebrated like a victory.

As announced by captain Nicola Leberer and team manager Mark Lerandy, the outsider did not put himself in the back, but – at least at the beginning – played an offensive role. He even kept the game open for 20 minutes and created a handful of chances. After Thuram’s goal to make it 2-0, the guests pulled away before the break.

The 24-year-old scored well on all three of his goals – twice by Captain Stindl, once by Hofmann. Gladbacher Thuram scored three goals in all of their 21 competitive appearances last season.

FC Augsburg made the debut of their new coach Enrico Maaßen in a competitive game. In the end, the Bundesliga team won clearly 4-0 (0-0) at the Lower Saxony regional league promoted Blau-Weiss Lohne. The strong resistance of the fourth division flagged on Sunday in front of 4150 spectators but only in the second half after goals by Arne Maier (51st), Fredrik Jensen (69th), Florian Niederlechner (81st) and Maurice Malone (89th).

Lohne not only barricaded himself in his own penalty area, but played courageously and disrupted early on. In the 17th minute, BW’s Jakub Bürkle hit the post, but was called off for a foul on Augsburg goalkeeper Rafael Gikiewicz.

FCA found it very difficult, also because the last pass too often didn’t arrive near the penalty area and clear scoring chances therefore rarely remained. New signing Elvis Rexhbecaj was in the starting XI just four days after signing from VfL Wolfsburg. However, one of his partners in central midfield decided the game: Arne Maier indicated a cross into the penalty area before his important free-kick goal to make it 1-0, but then flicked the ball past the wall directly into the goal. Even then, Lohne did not give up.

Hannover 96 benefited from two own goals from the Oberliga team from Mainz. Thanks to goals from Dominik Ahlbach (36th) and Silas Schwarz (50th), the second division team made it through to their own goal in the round of 32. In the meantime, Maximilian Beier (42nd) scored from the Hanoverian ranks.

Above all, the dismissal of majority shareholder Martin Kind as managing director of the outsourced professional football company floated on Wednesday. “I go my way, it is justified and responsible. The whole thing is completely superfluous,” Kind told the “Neue Presse” on Friday. “I don’t know why,” Kind said. “They didn’t tell us that.”

Kind does not consider the dismissal to be lawful and has it legally examined. He speculated it could be about things “that we should have let them know”. According to information from the “Neue Presse”, the e.V. had issued an instruction some time ago that it had to be consulted for expenditure of 100,000 euros. In the case of coach Stefan Leitl, who came to the current season for an estimated 500,000 euros, Kind is said not to have asked the parent club.
