Such a process is hard to imagine in professional football. But apparently he existed. Chelsea FC’s new American owners, Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali, may have made an embarrassing mishap.

According to “The Athletic”, they are said to have presented the now dismissed coach Thomas Tuchel with a line-up in a 4-4-3 formation in a meeting – i.e. with twelve players, the goalkeeper is still included in the formation information.

According to the report, Tuchel and his employees have experienced several more such slapstick moments. These are not described in detail. The Premier League club denies the story.

Chelsea parted ways with former Borussia Dortmund manager last Wednesday – 100 days after the club was taken over by the new owners. He will be succeeded by the previous Brighton coach

The relationship between the new owners Boehly/Eghbali and Tuchel had been tense for a long time.

At the end of the pre-season, Tuchel reportedly sent his agent to meetings with the bosses so he could focus on training with the squad. This is said to have caused tension early on with the new owners, who wanted more direct communication with their coach when looking for new players.

Tuchel and the US entrepreneur Boehly, who also owns shares in the Los Angeles Lakers, apparently did not always agree on potential commitments: for example, the club boss was enthusiastic about the possibility of superstar Cristiano Ronaldo being committed, while Tuchel had several Opportunities is said to have spoken out against the possible deal.

The new owners initially wanted to examine in the long term whether Tuchel is suitable for the comprehensive realignment of the club or not.

They probably compared the first 50 games in Tuchel’s tenure with the second 50 and, according to “The Athletic”, only found negative trends: the defense suffered an alarming slump and the attack still lacked imagination.

Meanwhile, details of Tuchel’s severance payment are known: he should receive an annual salary equivalent to around 15 million euros, writes the “Daily Mail”. In addition, Tuchel’s coaching staff should also be compensated with around 2.3 million euros.

However, the severance payment could be lower if Tuchel accepts a new job this season. There shouldn’t be a lack of offers.
