A few days before the election of the new party executive, AfD chairman Tino Chrupalla presented a list of party members with whom he would like to lead the AfD in the future.
The better-known politicians on his list include the co-chairwoman of the parliamentary group Alice Weidel, the former member of the Bundestag Roman Reusch and the budget politician Peter Boehringer. The Thuringian state chairman Björn Höcke is not one of them. The right-wing party had recently kept open a candidacy for the federal executive board.
The day before, Norbert Kleinwächter, a member of the Bundestag from Brandenburg, announced that he wanted to compete against Chrupalla at the three-day party conference in Riesa, Saxony, and run for party chairmanship. According to his own statements, he wants to clearly position the AfD as a “liberal-conservative” party.
It is not yet clear whether the delegates, who will gather in Riesa on June 17, will elect a chairman or a duo. In recent years, the AfD had two chairmen – until long-time party leader Jörg Meuthen left the party.
Chrupalla also counts Stephan Brandner, Carlo Clemens, Kay Gottschalk, Gerrit Huy, Marc Jongen, Jörn König, Sebastian Maack, Martin Reichardt and the Bavarian member of the state parliament Ingo Hahn in his team for the federal executive board.
