Niclas Füllkrug is the guarantee that SV Werder Bremen will fly high. The striker has scored nine goals in the first 12 games of the season and is the top scorer in the Bundesliga. In addition, the 29-year-old gave three assists, no player in the league is more dangerous than Füllkrug. The striker is in top form 18 days before the start of the World Cup and is therefore a candidate for the 26-man World Cup squad of the German national team.

Füllkrug is a classic center forward and therefore a rarity in Germany. With Serge Gnabry, Thomas Müller, Leroy Sané and Timo Werner, national coach Hansi Flick has a very well-manned offensive player, but he lacks a beefy center forward with strong headers, who secures balls on the offensive and has his strengths in the penalty area. The 1.89 meter tall jug could fill this gap.

“We see that Niclas has skills that can enrich our game. In general: A tall, athletic forward in the penalty area would make our attacking game more variable,” Flick told “Stern”, giving Füllkrug hopes of a nomination for Qatar.

Füllkrug would be a late starter in the national team jersey. So far the striker, who played with Werder in the second division last season, has yet to play an international match. With 19 goals, he shot Bremen back up last season, and he continues in the first division. Nevertheless, Flick has so far left the nomination of the filling krug open.

It is also unclear whether Mats Hummels will go to the World Cup. “There is a clear agreement with him on how we will proceed in relation to the World Cup. But that’s between us. The fundamental question here is: are we taking an experienced player with us to Qatar? Or do we think about the future, nominate a boy and give him the chance to prove himself at the highest level?” said Flick about Hummel’s personnel. There will be answers on November 10th when Flick announces the World Cup squad.
