She has now lost the title of the most prominent family member to Oriana. Gabriela Sabatini’s niece is a star in Argentina. The model, who shares the same last name, acts, sings and has been in a relationship with Juventus football star Paulo Dybala for years.
On the other hand, after her successful tennis career, Aunt Gabriela deliberately sought her way out of the spotlight and quickly found her way to Switzerland.
Now, however, she’s resurfaced in Paris, causing a stir with her fitness and looks. The now 52-year-old has lost none of her attractiveness and charisma 26 years after the end of her career – and even picked up a tennis racket in front of an audience.
“I’ve hardly played tennis in recent years, I’ve only just trained a little before the tournament,” she coqueted, “but of course that’s something completely different than it was then.”
In Roland Garros, where she was in the semi-finals five times, she surprisingly played alongside her compatriot Gisela Dulko in the Champions Trophy for ex-professionals.
Until the mid-nineties, Sabatini had been one of Steffi Graf’s great rivals, won 27 tournaments, including – her greatest triumph – the US Open in 1990 and was also extremely diligent as a businesswoman.
Even during her active life, the perfume named after her became one of the best-selling fragrance series in the world. Further care products for men and women followed. To date, a total of 18 different fragrances have been sold under her label.
As present as her articles were in public, it became just as quiet around Gabriela Sabatini. After the end of her career in 1996, which was forced by an abdominal muscle injury, she deliberately avoided appearances and visits to major tennis tournaments and successfully sealed off her private life. Her relationship status “single” has endured to this day.
Since 2015 she has officially lived in Pfäffikon, a community of 10,000 inhabitants 15 kilometers east of Zurich. According to her own statements, she runs regularly and rides a lot of racing bikes, including complete stages of the Tour de France.
