Global demand for fresh fish has decreased, and canned - rose

According to the Food and agriculture organization of the United Nations (FAO), quarantine and border closures in different countries of the world influenced the work of the fishing enterprises.

Increased global demand for canned, packaged, or processed tuna, frozen seafood, especially scallops. The most affected segment of premium fresh seafood — lobster, fresh salmon, octopus and squid, mussels, oysters, scallops, clams.

But after the lifting of the quarantine and the start of the establishments expected a gradual recovery in demand.

According to the latest data issued by the Ministry of agriculture, in 2020 the production of aquatic biological resources is growing on all major fishery pools. To 8 April 2020 total catch of aquatic bioresources for the year increased by 81.6 thousand tons or 5.7%, and exceeded of 1.51 million tons.

the Average price of agricultural producers live fish on 8 April was 130,24 RUR/kg (without VAT), and decreased in comparison with previous week by 0.2%. Average cost of frozen intact fish increased slightly by 0.2% to RUB 83,54/kg, salted herring has not changed (128,88 RUB./kg) price of fish fell by 1.6% to 670,43 RUB/kg.
