After more than twenty years as a Berlin member of parliament, Green Party politician Ramona Pop is moving to the Federal Association of Consumer Organizations (vzbv). She will be on the board there from July of this year, as the association announced in a press release. Until the end of 2021, Pop was Mayor of Berlin and Senator for Economics, Energy and Public Enterprises in the second cabinet of Governing Mayor Michael Müller (SPD).

“I am very much looking forward to representing the interests and rights of consumers,” Pop is quoted as saying in the press release. “Especially in times of crisis, strong consumer protection is of great importance and gives people security.”

The chairman of the vzbv board of directors, Wolfgang Schuldzinski, is happy about the new addition: “As an experienced politician and manager, she will give consumer protection in Germany a strong voice.” The current board member, Jutta Gurkmann, will remain the head of the consumer policy division.

The federal association is the umbrella organization of the consumer centers in the 16 federal states and other consumer associations. The chairman of the vzbv board of directors, Wolfgang Schuldzinski, said about the decision for Pop, as an experienced politician and manager, she would give consumer protection in Germany a strong voice. The graduate political scientist was Senator for Economics, Energy and Public Enterprises in Berlin until the end of last year. Previously, she was the leader of the Greens parliamentary group in the Berlin House of Representatives.

Ramona Pop resigned with the Giffey cabinet as mayor and Senator for Economics in Berlin. The graduate political scientist was a member of the Berlin House of Representatives for the Greens for more than twenty years, including seven years as parliamentary group leader.
