In the Holy Transfiguration Cathedral in St. Petersburg held a farewell ceremony and the funeral oncologist Andrey Pavlenko, who died from cancer on 5 January.
to say goodbye to Pavlenko came about 200 people, RIA Novosti reported. He is buried in the cemetery Chinavietnam.
In March 2018 Andrei Pavlenko was diagnosed with stomach cancer. The doctor decided openly to fight with severe disease. He continued to operate and advise patients, as well as to social networks, blogs, where he described how to resist disease.
2 January, the oncologist published a farewell letter on his page in Facebook in which he said that he was not able to overcome the disease, calling on all who are faced with similar problems not to give up.
Condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of the doctor was expressed by the head of the defense Ministry Sergei Shoigu, who was familiar with Pavlenko, and Minister of health of Russia Veronika Skvortsova. She noted that the personal example of the courageous struggle of Dr. Pavlenko with severe disease has helped thousands of patients start treatment and recovery.
