In St. Petersburg launched the newest diesel-electric submarine “Volkhov”. The ceremony was held at the “Admiralty shipyards”, according to the Agency TASS.
the Submarine is intended for the Pacific fleet. Only Toph ordered six similar to the “Volkhov” subs. First, “Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky” has already been handed over to the military.
“Volkhov” refers to the project 636.3 submarines, also known as “Varshavyanka”. This is one of the most unobtrusive submarine in the world. The sound of their engines is almost indistinguishable from the background noise of the ocean.
Length of project 636 is almost 74 meters, the maximum diving depth is 300 meters, the maximum speed under water – 20 knots, which is about 37 kilometers per hour, the crew – 52 people. The submarines armed with torpedoes and cruise missiles “Calibre”.
