In Ukraine abolished the immunity of deputies of the Verkhovna Rada

In Ukraine entered into force the law on the abolition of immunity of deputies of the Verkhovna Rada. This was one of the main election promises of President Vladimir Zelensky and his party “servant of the people”.

a Bill to abolish parliamentary immunity was presented at the meeting of Parliament itself Zelensky, reminds RIA Novosti. Ukrainian deputies “did a really great discovery and invented a perpetual motion machine of political life,” he said then.

“Works is very simple: first, the candidates promised to remove the immunity, then fail the vote, then people forget, and the next election, candidates again have something to say. This gadget is a time to go to the dustbin of history,” said Zelensky.

the debate on the abolition of immunity of deputies of the Verkhovna Rada’s really going in Ukraine for many years. In 2000 this question was even the subject of a national referendum: “Yes”, then voted nearly 90 percent of participants in the plebiscite, but to realize the results and failed. The abolition of parliamentary immunity was not the slogan of a “Maidan” in 2004 and 2014.

the Constitution contained a rule that deputies could not without the consent of the Rada to prosecute, to detain or to arrest. Representation on removal of immunity of deputies made for consideration in the Parliament, the Prosecutor General of the country.

in the Autumn deputies of the current Parliament abolished this rule, writing in the law a new mechanism of involving parliamentarians in criminal liability. Right now in Ukraine investigated a number of cases involving members of Parliament, including the former President of the country Petro Poroshenko and former speaker of the Ukrainian Parliament Andrei Parubiy.
