It was a strong season that ended in a big disappointment. After the successes in the League and FA Cup, Liverpool FC was denied the absolute crowning glory. Jurgen Klopp’s side lost out to Manchester City in the league title race and lost 1-0 to Real Madrid in the Champions League final. Nevertheless, it was a successful season for the “Reds”, who started planning for the next year immediately after the defeat against Real.

With Darwin Nunez, Liverpool have now presented their first spectacular entry. The striker joins the island from Benfica. The 22-year-old national player from Uruguay costs a fixed transfer fee of 75 million euros. With bonus payments, the transfer volume could increase to 100 million. Nunez has yet to sign his contract with the Reds.

The 22-year-old would be the most expensive player in Liverpool’s history. So far that’s Virgil van Dijk, the defender moved from Southampton to Anfield in 2018 for 84.5 million. Nunez scored 26 goals in 28 league games for Benfica last season and six in the Champions League.

The young striker’s move to Liverpool could see another transfer in his wake. With Nunez, Mohamed Salah, Diogo Jota, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mané, Klopp has an oversupply on the offensive. Everything indicates that Mané is leaving the club after six years. Bayern have already made two offers for the 30-year-old, but Liverpool have turned them down. The 35 million offered by Munich for the Senegalese were not enough for the “Reds”, the club is said to be demanding 50 million for Mané.

Mané’s move to Munich has been speculated for weeks. The striker is being talked about as a potential successor to Serge Gnabry, whose future in Munich remains uncertain. Mané, whose contract in Liverpool runs until June 30, 2023, could also replace the goal scorer Robert Lewandowski, who is willing to change.
