The airports apparently want to control the security checks themselves in the future. This is a possible result of the crisis talks between representatives of the aviation industry and Transport Minister Wissing in mid-June. So far, security checks have been carried out by private security services and controlled by the Federal Police.

“Together with the Federal Ministry of the Interior and the Federal Police, we will discuss how the airport companies can take over the control of the security services,” said Ralph Beisel, General Manager of the Airport Association ADV, in an interview with WELT am SONNTAG.

By transferring the organization to private hands, one hopes, among other things, that the companies carrying out the event will be able to better enforce compliance with the contracts. “So far, companies have felt no de facto consequences if they provide too few staff and entire control lanes are not manned,” said Beisel.

In order to avoid queues at hand luggage checks, the ADV is also bringing personnel changes into play. “Tasks like that of the tub returner could also be carried out by employees with lower qualifications,” said Beisel.
