Nuclear submarine tried to export from Primorye to China as scrap metal

Maritime customs officers detained 106 tons of scrap metal disposed of nuclear submarines. Cargo tried to export to China without a license. This was reported by the GTRK “Vladivostok”, aired on TV channels “Russia 1” “Russia 24”.

According to employees of Department on public relations of the DVTU, registered in Vladivostok, the exporting company filed a customs post electronic Declaration of exports to China 4 containers, which allegedly was the scrap of ferrous metals. The head of the organization contributed to the document with false information about the product. In the course of inspection it was established that under the usual scrap fraudsters have tried to take the steel obtained after cutting of the hull of a nuclear submarine. This metal to move across the border without proper authorization is illegal, as it can be reused to create military equipment after melting.

As noted the Deputy chief of far East customs Dmitry Polulyakh, scrap steel this brand can be exported under a license issued by the Federal service for military-technical cooperation. It can only be obtained by specialized state organizations with the right to foreign trade activities in respect of such products. It is known that representatives of the company in FSMTC of Russia for such a license is not applied.

As it turned out, the scrap metal was purchased at auction at the shipyard that manufactured the submarine. In order to participate, the head of the company used the license, has permission to participate in these auctions.

Recall, for the illegal transportation through the customs border of the materials and equipment used for the creation of military equipment and weapons, faces criminal liability. Customs officers opened a criminal case against the head of the company-the exporter’s case under article 226.1 of the criminal code.
