OSCE: the spread of sanctions on Sputnik Estonia is a threat to media freedom

OSCE Representative on freedom of the media, Harlem Desir, said that the desire of the authorities of Estonia to extend the personal sanctions of the EU against Director General MIA “Russia today” on the team Sputnik Estonia creates a problem in the field of media freedom, according to RIA Novosti.

Desir recalled that Sputnik Estonia is not included in the sanctions list of the EU and he urged Tallinn to refrain from imposing unnecessary restrictions in the work of foreign journalists.

As the OSCE representative has responded to the scandal with threats that the police and border guard Board of Estonia distributed in respect of employees of Sputnik Estonia, informing them that if they don’t stop labour relations with the parent organization, against them criminal cases will be brought based on the fact that in 2014, the EU imposed sanctions against a number of legal entities and individuals in Russia.
