Iranian authorities detained within a few hours and let the British Ambassador to Iran Robert Macaire. The reason was his participation in the protests of students at Tehran University of Technology. According to local media reports, the diplomat was located near the University store and tried to guide the actions of the protesters.
Today, the Ambassador will be summoned to the Iranian foreign Ministry in connection with the incident, reports channel “Russia 24”.
Minister of foreign Affairs of the United Kingdom called the detention of the Ambassador a flagrant cases of violations of international law. This position is shared by the U.S. state Department. The Ministry urges the Iranian authorities to apologize to London for the incident.
