Thuringia is the first federal state to ban AfD members from owning firearms. For two years now, membership in an anti-constitutional association has been sufficient to withdraw or refuse a gun permit, Thuringia’s Interior Minister Georg Maier (SPD) said on Wednesday in Erfurt.

This also applies to members of the AfD. The party is pursuing right-wing extremist efforts against the free and democratic basic order in the Free State.

Since March 2021, she has been classified by the Thuringian Office for the Protection of the Constitution as an observation object in the area of right-wing extremism. In this respect, the ban on the acquisition and possession of weapons for AfD members only implements current law.
