Bavaria’s Prime Minister Markus Söder defended the reception for the G-7 heads of state and government with traditional costumes against a lot of criticism, ridicule and malice on social networks. “It’s just part of Bavaria: modernity, but also customs,” said the CSU boss on Monday in Munich. “It’s part of our lifestyle.”

Söder added: “It may be that one or the other doesn’t like it that much – so all the guests who were there really liked it.” Among other things, he named US President Joe Biden, who also did this at Munich Airport was welcomed.

Söder referred to the Oktoberfest, where six million people came every year before Corona – nobody was bothered by the people in traditional costumes there either. “When you come to Bavaria, that’s just part of it. Bavaria is a bit different than anywhere else. That’s why people like coming to us.”

Söder expressly thanked all those wearing traditional costumes, mountain riflemen and bands who had welcomed the G-7 leaders in the past few days. “If you don’t like it, just click on something else,” he recommended.
