U.S. Secretary of state Michael Pompeo has decided to postpone scheduled visits to Ukraine, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Cyprus. Earlier it was expected that he would visit the country from 3 to 7 January, reports TASS.
the Reason for this decision was the events in Iraq. 31 December before the us Embassy in Baghdad began a mass protest because of American air strikes on border with Syria town of al-Qaim. Beat the Pentagon on the soldiers of the Shiite movement “Kataib Hezbollah” (banned in Russia). In the end, 25 people were killed and over 50 injured.
on 1 January to protest at the Embassy continued. In the end, to disperse the demonstrators who tried to set fire to the building, fired tear gas and rubber bullets.
“Pompeo forced to postpone visits in connection with the need to stay in Washington to continue to monitor the situation in Iraq, as well as to ensure the safety of Americans in the middle East”, — said the head of the press service of the U.S. Department of state Morgan Ortagus.
however, he noted that the visit did take place in the near future.
