Russian video service Coub changed hands

the service Coub, allowing to publish a looped video up to 10 seconds, was replaced by the owner. They became company “the Committee” – publisher sites vc.ru TJ and DTF.

according vc.ru, Coub went “in full possession and control” to “Committee” from 1 January this year. The company intends to optimize costs and review the product strategy of the service, and translate it into a single technology platform that runs the projects “Committee”.

“We will try to review the food strategy project, to establish a base to monetize and optimize costs through synchronization of technological solutions”, – commented on the transaction Director product the “Committee” Vlad Tsyplukhin. According to him, the Coub is preserved a large audience of active users, however, the key problem remains “the lack of a coherent business model that led to the gap between the cost of the contents of the loaded video service and its income”.

the Deal was made with the assistance of the investment group LVL1 Lev Leviev, which owns shares in both companies. Financial terms were not disclosed. Coub co-founder Anton Gladkoborodov will leave the project.

Coub was founded by Anton and Igor Gladkoborodov and Mikhail Tabunov in 2012. In 2013, the startup raised a million dollars in investment funds from Phenomen Ventures and Brother Ventures, in 2014, received the development of $2.5 million from Vaizra Capital Fund.

According to statistics, the “Committee”, the monthly audience Coub is 4 million people in embudo (embedded video) – 8 million in mobile apps – 500 thousand. Users of the service to create over 3000 “coubs” a day.
