Cyprus is blocking the introduction of new anti-Russian sanctions

Cyprus refuses to vote for the imposition of sanctions the European Union against several Russian officials in the Crimea.

However, at the same time, according to Reuters, Cyprus looks forward to the adoption by Europe of more stringent measures against Turkey, which conducts drilling works for oil and gas in the territorial waters of Cyprus.

For the imposition of sanctions against the Russians required the unanimous support of all 28 members of the European Union.

the Representative of the foreign Ministry of Cyprus denies the connection between these two issues, according to RIA Novosti.

In December last year, the US Congress passed two bills, according to which Cyprus will be granted significant support to Washington in its territorial and energy disputes with Turkey. Washington is not hiding its discontent with Turkey’s decision to send drilling vessels in the economic zone of Cyprus.
