The history of the sort Solzhenitsyn: little-known documents

There is in Kislovodsk, a special place that is worth a visit. Just 31 may marks 5 years from the date of opening in this resort town of the first state Museum of Alexander Solzhenitsyn. The Museum is housed in the house of the aunt of Alexander Solzhenitsyn, where the famous writer spent the first years of his life. For this anniversary, a special exhibition, new materials on the life of Solzhenitsyn in Russia, as well as the period of his life in the United States.

Kislovodsk. 1910. Before you the only surviving footage of this southern Russian city, taken before the revolution. The last peaceful years of life of the Russian Empire. Soon will break the First world war, then the revolution, a fratricidal carnage and social upheaval that drastically will change the country and its people.

In December 1918 here’s a boy who is destined to survive and to describe the fateful hard times and moved onto Russia the red wheel. Relatives affectionately called him Sledge. For the rest of the world it will be Russian writer Alexander Solzhenitsyn.

In Soviet times, the memory of his family in Kislovodsk “clean up” and will weed out at the root. In 70-e demolish the house where the writer was born; a little earlier — in the mid 60’s- destroy the Church of the great Martyr Panteleimon, where he was baptized.
in the Fall of 1994, returning home after a forced expulsion and a 20-year exile, Nobel prize winner Alexander Solzhenitsyn will only see the dilapidated home of his aunt, where he lived for 4 years in early childhood.

“I lived on the first floor. I once on the ladder I went, tripped, broke the nose. So the more I climbed,” said Solzhenitsyn.

Five years ago, the mansion was finally put in order, it opened a Museum dedicated to the life and work of the writer.

this year in Kislovodsk was supposed to show unique documents on the history of the sort Solzhenitsyn. But due to quarantine restrictions the exhibition had to be postponed for an indefinite time. Today, thanks to the staff of the House of Russian abroad named after Alexander Solzhenitsyn, we still see these little-known rare documents.

At the front, the gunner isaakiy Solzhenitsyn for his courage and professionalism were awarded the St. George medal, 4th degree, order of St. Stanislaus 3rd degree order of St. Anne 3rd degree. During the great Patriotic war, his son Alexander Solzhenitsyn will also go to the front as a volunteer, become an artillery scout, captain of the red Army and for courage will be awarded the Soviet order.

this is the table where Alexander Solzhenitsyn for many years worked on “the Red wheel”. Made it on sketches by the writer himself and his American neighbors — carpenters in Vermont. The secret of the table is that it is very light and is just two goats. If necessary it can be quickly disassembled and moved to any other place. All the things on the table genuine. At this table the writer will run until the end of life.
