According to the recollections of a war correspondent of “Izvestia” Eugene Krieger, on the night of 24 June 1945 in Moscow almost no one slept. On Tverskaya, which was then called Gorky street, in most homes till the morning the light was on. People stood at the open window and joyfully looked at the columns of tanks, which is already with midnight lined up on the main street of the capital in anticipation of the Victory Parade. At 6 a.m. in the center of Moscow began to arrive and regiments of the fronts.

a Grand Victory Parade was prepared during the month. The decision on its carrying out was made personally by Stalin. It happened during a solemn reception in honor of the commanders of the red Army in the St. George hall of the Kremlin.
